Update: Behind-the-scenes work progressing

Though there hasn’t been much content added to the site recently, there will be a LOT of it in the not-too-distant future. For those who’d like a sneak peek, here’s some files I’m working on to organize things before posting them to Trekipedia:

Defiant (Mirror)

Defiant class (DS9-537)
Defiant class (DS9-537)

Starship constructed by the Terran Resistance in the Mirror Universe for use in their struggle against the Alliance. The Defiant was a close copy of the Federation starship of the same name from the Prime universe, and was built using technical information on the Defiant class downloaded by Miles “Smiley” O’Brien during his visit to the Prime universe’s Deep Space Nine in 2371. “Smiley” was able to download the schematics from Deep Space Nine’s computers and brought them back to the Mirror Universe, where construction began at Terok Nor, which had come under rebel control. While construction proceeded well with materials stolen from the Alliance, the Defiant‘s powerful warp core nearly caused the ship to shake itself apart during test flights. With an Alliance fleet on its way to retake the station in 2372, O’Brien enlisted the help of Professor Jennifer Sisko to bring Captain Benjamin Sisko into the Mirror Universe, so that he could solve the problems on the Defiant. Sisko was able to iron out the problems and even commanded the Defiant in the Battle of Terok Nor against Regent Worf‘s fleet, helping to turn the tide in the war against the Alliance.[1]

U.S.S. Defiant NCC-75633

Defiant class (DS9-537)
Defiant class (DS9-537)

Originally named the Sao Paulo, the Defiant-class ship was rechristened Defiant in 2375 after coming under the command of former Defiant commanding officer Captain Benjamin Sisko, in honor of its sister ship,[2] which had been destroyed weeks earlier during the Battle of Chin’toka.[1] The new Defiant played a pivotal role in the final battle of the Dominion War, the Battle of Cardassia.[3] Following the conclusion of the war, the Romulan Senate moved to allow the Defiant to retain the Romulan cloaking device that it utilized. Recognizing the importance of the vessel, and Deep Space Nine, as the first line of defense against further Dominion attacks.[4]

U.S.S. Defiant NX-74205 (Legacy)

Defiant class (DS9-537)
Defiant class (DS9-537)

After its construction, the Defiant went on a trial run to the Romulan Neutral Zone, where it was tested under the command of Commander Benjamin Sisko. During this test run, the Defiant discovered a derelict D’Deridex-class warbird in Federation space. Upon further investigation, the Defiant encountered a group of warbirds under the command of Valerius of the Tal Shiar, who had laid a trap for a rogue Vulcan criminal named T’Uerell. When Commander Sisko challenged the Romulan officer, Valerius’s attack forced the Defiant to flee into a nebula, where it left an emergency distress beacon. When the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D came to assist the Defiant, they discovered that the smaller vessel had fallen into Romulan hands, and the Romulans were beginning to study it at a secret base. A Starfleet task force managed to destroy the base and allow the Defiant to escape.[1]

U.S.S. Defiant NX-74205

Defiant class (DS9-537)
Defiant class (DS9-537)

Lead vessel of the Defiant class. The Defiant was officially classified as an escort, but began development in 2366 as a small, highly-powered, heavily-armed starship intended to defend the Federation against the Borg. The Defiant was the first of what was to be a new Federation battle fleet. Starfleet abandoned the project when the Borg threat became less urgent and after design flaws turned up during the Defiant‘s shakedown cruise. On Stardate 48213.1, the Defiant was assigned to Deep Space Nine under the command of Commander Benjamin Sisko, who also commanded the station, to help counter the threat posed by the Dominion, and the ship was equipped with a cloaking device on loan from the Romulans. The ship had minimal crew accommodations, a small sickbay, and no provisions for families.[1]

U.S.S. Defiant NCC-1764 (New)

Defiant (ST-11)
Defiant (ST-11)

The U.S.S. Defiant NCC-1764 was a Federation starship in service to Starfleet in the mid-23rd century of the New timeline. Its class was unknown, but resembled a Miranda class starship from the Prime timeline. In 2258, the Defiant was destroyed by the Narada during a mission to investigate a “lightning storm in space” in the proximity of Vulcan. The U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 narrowly avoided colliding with the wreckage of the Defiant‘s saucer as it came out of warp.[1] The special features on the DVD/BluRay release revealed that the ship pictured was the Defiant, and that it shared the same registry number as its Prime universe counterpart, if not its class.

I.S.S. Defiant NCC-1764 (Mirror)

Defiant (ENT-95)
Defiant (ENT-95)

In the Mirror Universe, the Terran Imperial Starship Defiant was in service in the 23rd century. The Defiant was destroyed by a Tholian force led by Loskene in 2268, after Loskene had demanded the Defiant retreat. Its recorder beacon was recovered from the Defiant‘s wreckage by the I.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701. Despite standard precedure to retaliate against any military that attacked a Terran vessel, the Empire did not respond to this particular attack, per the recommendation of Captain Spock to Emperor John Gill, in light of the Empire’s greater concern at the time with the growing Klingon-Cardassian Alliance.[1] It’s unclear if this Defiant is the prime reality starship, having remained in service for over a century after arriving back in time, or a newer Constitution-class vessel with the same name.

Construction began on the Constitution-class Starship Defiant at Tranquility Base, Luna,[2] in the 2250s. During the early years of her service, the Defiant conducted many missions of importance for Starfleet, and constantly patrolled the Klingon Neutral Zone as tensions between the two powers continued to rise. During that time, the Defiant became the sixth Federation starship to encounter the N’shaii, and was easily able to dispatch them.[4]

Defiant class

Defiant class (DS9-537)
Defiant class (DS9-537)

The Defiant class differs from most other Starfleet designs in many ways. It is primarily designed for military purposes, having been developed to fight the Borg, beginning in the months before the Battle of Wolf 359 in 2366. Following that incident, Lieutenant Commander Benjamin Sisko joined the development team at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. Besides conventional weapons, the ship had pulse phaser cannons and quantum torpedo launchers. While other ships of the class were built, the U.S.S. Defiant NX-74205 was the only Starfleet vessel equipped with a cloaking device, due to a special amendment to the Treaty of Algeron, intended to allow the Defiant to covertly gather data on the Dominion, which would then be shared with the Romulan Star Empire.[1] Defiant class ships were 170.68 meters in length, 134.11 meters in width, and 30.1 meters in height, with four decks, and they massed 355,000 metric tons. The ships carried a crew complement of 40, and had an evacuation limit of 150.[8] The Defiant class ships were first commissioned in 2370[1] and were capable of warp 9.982 for 12 hours.[8]

The U.S.S. Dauntless was a Federation Defiant-class escort starship in Starfleet service in the 24th century. This ship was in active service during the Dominion War, and was one of a number of vessels to bear the name.[1]
