An ancient predator stalks the Starship Enterprise!

The Enterprise, along with two other Starfleet vessels, investigates the area of space known as the Great Rift. Strange stories of pirates, several ships, and entire colonies vanishing prompt the presence of the three ships. An humanitarian rescue reveals an entire vessel full of catatonic people and leads to a bizarre truth: a renegade planet-like being roams the region and devours the consciousnesses of its victims.
