A cosmic force rules a distant planetoid–and the Enterprise is about to explode!

A team of Vulcan scientists sends out a distress signal that takes ten years to reach the Federation. Sent on the rescue, the Enterprise arrives upon a seemingly stable situation. To make matters worse, the ship has a new computer that can override major command decisions, making Kirk more irritable than usual. Toss in a reporter overseeing his every move and the situation is quite volatile.
