Exploring the ancient runis of a civilization proves costly to the crew of the Enterprise. Chekov gets teamed with a woman he can’t stand, and during the investigation of a strange alien artifact that looks like a window, both of them fall through it and vanish. While Kirk tries to solve the mystery, he accidentally falls through the portal as well and disappears. When Spock orders scans of the planet, the sensors cannot find any human life… but they have now picked up some strange crab-like creatures.
