The crew of Voyager seeks passage through a hostile region of space. For a ride, aliens called Skedans offer to provide maps of the area to avoid the more turbulent spots. Shortly after the journey starts, Seven of Nine begins to have visions of large black birds. To make matters worse, her mind begins to relive memories of various individuals she had assimilated over the years when she was a Borg drone.
